Products » Solar Hot Water » AG 210 Low Pressure
The AG210 is a low cost DIY solar / electric capable units. A standard NZ element socket is available for a registered Electrican to install electrical backup.
These low pressure, 210 litre evacuated tube based solar hot water heaters are excellent value, for a bach, sleep-out or shed.
We have provided some sample flow diagrams for examples, but a plumber should be used for installation and system design.
We also provide these in "Pacific Island Form" with 22 degree frames.
This product is an upgrade from the smaller 135 litre unit we used to sell - 210 lites is much better suited to household needs - but below are some reviews for the AG-135:
Customer Review June 09
To the whatpowercrisis team. I Just wanted to say thank you for the help you gave me with my new 130 liter low pressure solar hot water cylinder. It is absolutely fantastic. I would totally agree with the 40% power saving that has been reported. Since installing the solar hot water cylinder our average power bill has decreased from around $150 month to $90.
I have had absolutely no problems with the hot water cylinder since I installed it, (everything was in the box that said would be) and the water pressure has actually increased from when we had our mains powered hot water cylinder.
I would urge anyone who is scared of giving low cost solar hot water cylinders a go to try it. In total from the whole system I have spend about $1500 including the cylinder, hot water tempering valve, piping and fittings, wetback element for my fire and wetback adapter for the cylinder itself. I estimate to have the whole unit paid off in 1.5 to 2 years.
Throughout the summer I averaged 50-70 degree hot water and did not require the back up electric element at all. We often had up to 5 adults staying in the house over weekends and had more than enough hot water to go around.
I am now excited to continue my low cost off grid mission, and am looking to install a wind turbine and one solar panel. I will start with running the house lights and plug circuits off wind and solar, leaving the oven and fridges to run off mains power.
Good luck
James from Waiheke
